After the travesty that was the Fifty Shades of Grey books, I swore I'd never read another series in that vein again. Bad characterizations, bad plot...I could go on about what was wrong with that series. And yet, there was a small spark of potential there. One day at the library, I don't know why, but I picked up this book, "Fire After Dark." It claimed to be something FSoG fans would like. That would have normally scared me away, but it didn't. Having finished "Fire After Dark," I can say that this is the book "Fifty Shades of Grey" wishes it was. Here are a few reasons why:1)our heroine, Beth, is not entirely stupid. She knows a little about BDSM, she's had sexual relations before, she calls herself out on doing stupid stuff, and she actually seems like she has a brain! She also is not afraid to express her opinion to Dominic, her love interest. In short, Beth is what a human being is like- everything Anastasia Steele was not and could never hope to be. 2)Dominic, the mysterious love interest- so far, he has no secret past, and no ominous foreshadowing. He's just a guy who likes kink and such, recognizes his dark side, and recognizes that he goes too far with Beth at times. He's also willing to fix himself and not stalk Beth everywhere, at least until she agrees to try out being his sub. And even then, it's not too bad. 3)the sex is not stupid, nor is it highly unrealistic to the point of being laughable. 4)no repetitive usage of stupid phrases!!!!! 5)there's not much of a plot, but then, this is a character driven story. And it's done fairly well. 6)Beth acknowledges she loves Dominic early on, but she doesn't wax sentimental over it every other minute. She thinks things through, asks for advice from her boss/friend, discusses the situation with Dominic, and is not afraid to express her feelings. In fact, there's a scene where she does this toward the end of the book that had me rooting for her. The only gripe I had was something Beth's mother did that occurs toward the end of the book. It just didn't fit what we've been shown of the mom. The book definitely ends on a cliffhanger, but it's not an overdramatic one. Instead, readers are left awaiting the next book in the series, and I do hope it's as good as this one. Premier tome du trilogie érotique.l'héroïne est une jeune femme qui a du mal à se remettre de sa première trahison amoureuse. il s'agit pour de s'offrir un nouveau départ à Londres où elle va pouvoir assouvir sa passion de l'art.la narration se fait à la première personne, on vit toute ses expériences à travers son seul regard.Dans une première partie de l'histoire, il s'agit avant de tout de découverte : de cette ville inconnu mais aussi découverte d'elle-même, qui elle est, quel tour veut-elle donner à sa vie ...L'histoire qui se déroule sur quatre semaines, commence en douceur pour s'intensifier au fil des semaines et des pages. Dans la deuxième partie on assiste à une très nette accélération du rythme.on est littéralement happer par l'histoire.Beth est, ainsi à la fois, émerveillée par se qui se dégage de Dominic et en même temps effrayée par ses pratiques avec lesquelles elle ne sait pas trop comment composer. A son contact Beth va se découvrir et gagner en maturité.Dominic quant à lui est séduit non pas par sa jeunesse (près de 10 ans séparent le couple) mais par son innocence, son inexpérience. c'est un personnage qui au final reste très mystérieux et qui comme à Beth nous inspire des sentiments très changeant en fonction des situations.L'ensemble est vraiment très bien amené et construit.Un conseil ne commencer pas le tome 1 si vous n'avez pas le tome 2 sous la main !
