About book Gardener, The (2010)

The Gardener is about a boy named mason who lives with his mom since he never did get to meet his father. The plot starts when he meets a mysterious girl who wakes up to the sound of his father reading “The Runaway Rabbit” on a recording that Mason carries around for consolation for his lack of a father. The plot is centered around the girl, her abnormalities, and her strange hatred of "TroDyn", a laboratory that almost runs the town. A side note is that Mason finds himself in love with this strange girl very, very early in the book. I really liked the way the book let you see the actually see the way that teens talk and not make up some fake dialect that no one uses. The best example of this real dialect is that Mason does swear under his breath (like all teen do by the way). Mason's motivation came mostly from his love for the girl, whose name I will not spoil, but some came from his motivation to meet his father. Mason was extremely well developed and easy to understand since he shared the same story as countless other kids. The theme in this book is probably to love others for who they are, this is demonstrated by the devotion Mason has to this girl that others may think is an abomination. This book reminds me of "The Fault in Our Stars"; a young boy quickly falls in love with a girl that is impaired. It also reminds me of the modern world since one advancement of TroDyn's almost creates the whole plot. This book reminds me of my life since my father works very often and I don't see my dad as much as I see my mom. Mason reminds me of Josh Wimer, a nice guy that is even funnier than you can imagine. The strange girl reminds me of Hazel from " The Fault in our Stars" since she is in need of help and gets attached to mason almost instantly.I really liked this book, the plot and the massive plot twist made the book irresistible. I did dislike the fact that he almost abandoned his mom without a trace. This plot may contain some sci-fi elements, it should not scare of any mystery lovers that think sci-fi is for geeks. I also recommend this to any Christian readers; the end of the book contains a strong reference to "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse". The main recommendation I have is for all "lovers of love" that enjoy a good love story. The suspense is amazing and the plot is riveting, a wonderful book. What would you do if you woke up a supposedly brain dead 16 year old girl? Well Mason has just done that by playing a clip of his father. He didn’t mean to wake the girl but when he did she started to scream saying “The gardener will get us the gardener will get us”. Then she starts running from the Haven of Peace, which is a nursing home. Weird right what would a 16 year old girl and 3 other children be doing in a nursing home meant for old people. Well Mason’s friend Jack meant them outside of the Haven of Peace and they all went to Jack’s cabin. They stop by a gas station to get something to eat. Jack hands the girl a bottle of chocolate milk but the whole way to the cabin she just holds it in her hands. They get to the cabin late at night and sleep. 10 minutes after they all wake up the girl says they’re and she was right when Mason looked outside there were black cars everywhere. Who are these people? Will Mason and his friends make it of the cabin or will something else happen? Read my book “The Gardener” By S.A. Bodeen to find out. I recommend this book from 7th grade and up.

Do You like book Gardener, The (2010)?

Not bad, but certainly not add compelling as it could have been... There was just something lacking.
