About book Games Of Fire (2013)

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*Actual rating 3.5/5.Game of Fire is an entertaining but predictable romance novel. Things I didn’t like so much:The story was very predictable. I knew who the creepy stalker was almost as soon as he was introduced. Without giving any spoilers I also think the ending was wrapped up too quickly and neatly (including the sub plot with Spencer’s relationship with dad and stepmother).Spencer’s family’s reaction to his relationship with Sophie also bugged me. His mother likes Sophie but doesn’t want her to date Spencer because he may get his heart broken again like it was two years earlier. Is he never supposed to date again because his heart was broken when he was 15? His sister also dislikes Sophie for no reason other than apparently she’s not as good as Aimee (even though she doesn’t like Aimee). Don’t get me started on his brother.Things I Enjoyed:While being obvious and not exactly original the plot was still entertaining. Spencer and Sophie are likable. Their teen romance is relatable and realistic. Plus the sexual tension between them is palpable. When Spencer was introduced I was worried he would be the typical jerk/bad boy normally found in these types of romance stories. However, while flawed (due to his history) he is still lovable. He is extremely loyal and obviously cares about Sophie and his family.A big plus for me is that both protagonists have parents that are an active presence throughout the story, and who are actually interested in what is going on in their children’s lives. Unfortunately this does not happen enough in YA stories. I also loved the friendship between Spencer and Sophie’s mothers. Despite not knowing each other for very long they obviously care about and support each other.Overall Game of Fire is an engaging but very predictable novel. *I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*This book is incredible. I have to admit it was nothing liked I thought it would be. If I’m being perfectly honest if I’d known what it was going to be like I probably never would’ve read it because it’s not my type of story. But guys. O. M. G. I loved it. The feels guys, the feels from this book are amazing. (Just roll with me people; my useless blabbering does amount something.)So firstly the romance. I LOVE Spencer and Sophie; their romance was so beautifully portrayed. A beautiful, broken guy trying to open up to the girl? Yes please! I found that so perfect that for one it was the guy that was broken not the girl and I loved Spencer’s character – being a jerk totally suited his character and it really worked with the rest if the book! This was especially perfect with how the book ended I thought as we get to see the romance progress and then pull through both when they needed it most.Personally I think the book would’ve been perfect as just a romance between Spencer and Sophie but the stalker/serial killer aspect really did add something as it brought them together so we really get to see them develop. I found the characters really easy to empathise with and I especially loved Lauren and Jessie. Their characters were so feisty and I found that at points they not only reassured Sophie but also me.The story was captivating – I had to have my kindle forcibly removed from me at one point! However although the darker aspects did add to the book having that extra POV left me quite confused at first and it took me a while to work out who’s it was.I’ll admit I was slightly disappointed by the book as I’d assumed there was a supernatural element to it – especially after the introduction to the ‘demon child’ but it all worked so well and – as much as I hate to admit it; I really don’t do these sort of stories normally – it really did make the book better. The story was far darker than I expected and I’m a complete chicken when it comes to these things but it was completely captivating – and yes I’ll say it again – I loved it!- So proud of myself I guessed who it was and I was right! -
