For Keeps is a realistic book with an angsty plot that is delivered in a dramatic light hearted manner. Now is that a bad thing? Not really, but neither is it that up the par. I mean I think having a whole other estranged family who to your knowledge never accepted you would be a jot more serious.I was expecting a lot more mature emotional output from the main character Josie, then what she has shown. I found her to be immature, bratty and self absorbed. The blurb of the book is very misleading. I thought here was a girl who was scared of the same thing happening to herself as her mom and thus was pushing away a very nice guy. Not exactly, Paul was just really an after thought and Matt 'Riggs' was barely there. Btw Matt seems like a jerk. The book really was about Josie's issue with her mom finally getting into a serious relationship with a guy.You won't find any emotional depth between Josie and Matt, it really is simply an attraction that will later fade out. Now while its normally likely that a first relationship will never last or is based on attraction. But which girl who wants a HEA admits that a relationship won't last even before it starts, thats Josie for you.The writing is entertaining but Josie and Matt required a lot more edge then what they turned out to be.Kate on the other hand I adored her and really really was hoping she got a HEA. I think she really deserved it.It's an OK (2**) read that you'd pick up if you don't have anything else but it really isn't a book that would be one of the top picks. It won't bore as much as exasparate you, how many times did I wasnt to smack Josie on her head. For Keeps was something that I'd describe as a quick, beachy read. 200 pages more or less, and a great coming of age story that will have you inspired. This plot made my heart race, and my stomach churn for what would happen next. Families are all different, and finding the past of yours is important, and I believe that Josie made that clear. Josie was one heartstopping heroine. She was fearless, brave and was ready for what the future would bring her. I'd like to be like her someday, and I think that she will cause all of us, once read, to become like her too. Natasha Friend has created a great role model for any teenage girl, waiting for their problems to be solved, just like Josie's were. What a fantastic novel, go give it a try.
