We all knew how this would turn out, but Jake was a bit much for me. His never believing Bree got old quick. That along with the family's dislike of Kevin's military career insisting they could talk him out of reenlisting, their reactions while having him home on R&R, and the boyfriend from Chicago were annoying. The story unfolding was okay, but it was so laden with bitterness and mistrust that it made it hard to like it. The second in a series about several branches and generations in one family, I like seeing continuity of characters develop over time instead of falling in love, getting married, and having children all within one book. One of the characteristics I like best about this author is that events take place over the course of months instead of weeks. They seem more realistic than many romances. There are still trite concepts - every member of this huge family seems doomed to relationships that fall apart and must be patched back together - but that plotline is one of the most tried and true of the genre.Really, I think I might need a venture into another genre for a while. Four books of the same type in the course of two weeks has been kind of a downer. I suspect that I'll enjoy the third book in the series more when I come back from my "break."

I love the Chesapeake Shores series. I have yet to read a Sherryl Woods book that I didn't like.
