Flora and the Flamingo is wordless picture book that shoes Flora and her flamingo doing an interpretative dance. The two work together in perfect unison and create a lovely story with no words needed. To add to the pictures there is also flaps that help to tell the story. It shows a beautiful friendship and how the two work together so well, and no words are needed. This is a book for any age elementary student, mainly girls. I think it is important that all teachers have a book like this in the classroom to show you don’t need words to make a good book.Idle, M. S. (2013). Flora and the flamingo. San Francisco, Calif: Chronicle Books. This book is called Flora and the Flamingo and is by Molly Idle. The book is a wordless picture book. I have never read a wordless picture book and was unsure of what to think about this book. While I was not a hug fan of their not being any words, It really helped me to stop and appreciate the pictures. My interpretation of this book is that Flora and her flamingo are trying to dance together, but along the way have some trouble of staying together, but by the end of the book they learn to dance gracefully with one another. I would use this book for the younger grades. The students could get up and active as they dance along with Flora and the Flamingo. This would also b a great book for the students get creative and come up with their own words. The students could do a picture walk, and come up with words for each page, the teacher would write the words on post it notes, and could later go back and read their story. The pictures in this story are very pretty, and very pink. The story would also be a great book for students to add their own pictures too as well. They would be able to change the ending or the beginning or even the middle, and truly make the story theirs. Overall I give this book 5 stars.
