This is a conspiracy thriller in which the reader isn't expected to figure out the culprit or evil-doers' motives. Instead, the thrill comes from a slowly solved mystery that crosses borders and appeals to those paranoid of the CIA and other intelligence agencies. The detectives are hard-boiled, emotionally beat-up characters with tender cores. The first 2/3 of the book was a page-turner, but the remaining part of the book devolved into the main characters' sitting around and explaining the vast conspiracy with silly pseudo-psychology and biology. It took me about 3 seconds to get sucked into this one, and I'm glad I picked it up. Great English debut for Franck Thilliez, this was a great weave of the intersecting personal stories of 2 long-time, road-weary, lost-without-love police officers/detectives in France that team up to track down the mastermind behind some remarkably similar (and remarkably gruesome) killings across the globe. Certainly you can guess where this story heads, and the 2 grow closer as the plot thickens. Fantastic plot and character development, although I'm still sort of left with an odd, inexplicable fleeting feeling of disdain for Sharko, the protagonist, which just may be my fault, and not really Mr. Thillliez' after all. I'd absolutely read his next one (this is the first in a series he's penning) and I truly enjoyed this book a lot.
Do You like book Öffne Die Augen: Thriller (2010)?
This book has a number of great conceptual elements, but it just never came together for me.

Great suspense. And police thriller. A look into the face of evil.
