About book Fever Moon: The Fear Dorcha (2012)

While not expecting average-looking human beings (because graphics novels have requirements to meet), this graphic novel fills in all the slots the Fever series leaves out. However, what it does not do is paint Barrons out to look Asian. He looks Asian in Fever Moon. Other than that, Barrons' fits perfectly. In fact, all the characters do. The royal Fae indeed appear beautiful, Barrons' men are huge guys, and Mac is a sexy beast. Damn I envy women in comic books. My only other complaint: Dani doesn't look young enough. True, some young teens occasionally sport a wrack before they really even hit their popular teens so I'm not going to hold that against her, plus as I said before, graphic novels have requirements, one being sexy figures. But Dani doesn't look nearly her age. Again, that aside, I have no problems with this book. I'm very glad I purchased it. I loved seeing the same hate/love game between Mac and Barrons, especially at the end when you get a really good glimpse at Barrons' tender side. It's in Shadowfever as well, but it's not always easy seeing what you imagine when it's only words. Even just pictures, the graphic novel helped. Barrons loves Mac, but he shows it differently.I totally loved the scene of Barrons kissing Mac. Too nice. My only other complaint about Fever Moon? While the Fever series is far from a kid's series, and Fever Moon is a depiction of the story, my complaint is that there wasn't enough adult content. I enjoyed watching the events of Mac's return from being Pri-ya, because it shows her and Barrons coming together in ways the story doesn't show--at least, not until you get to the end of Shadowfever. Fever Moon left me needing to reread the end of Shadowfever to really finish the entire story. My advice: if you're unsure on whether or not you should read Fever Moon, ask yourself this, "Do I want to know the whole story of the fever series, or am I just reading the books to pass the time and enjoy myself?" I hope the book is better than the adaptation. I read the author's notes, so I know the rapes are in the original, but if this graphic novel was an adaptation of the final book in the series the inclusion of the "reminder" of those events just felt like a cheap way to add sex into a story that didn't have any. There were a lot of unnecessary sexualizations (poses, meaningless interludes - a stretch for Kat to look at Mac's ass, really?) I have been reading comics and graphic novels for about 30 yrs now, as well as traditional prose. While comics have a reputation for sexism, this was of a far more deliberate nature. it wasn't "sexy", which I was expecting from a Moning story. It was "sexist."The story was interesting, but I owe that to Moning's source material, hence the 2 stars - one for Moning's source and one for well drawn work. The others are withheld for a poorly written script and a cheesecake comic with inexcusable inclusions of romanticized rape.I am really disappointed that this was recommended to me.
