I love this story! I had not read the other books in the series, but I love how this one mixes magic with our world after a massive battle that destroys both worlds. I love how children from Earth are being born with magic, and the troubles that happen as they try to control their powers, the issues with people who think those with magic should be cast out or killed, and the struggle of the magic born. I will have ot get my hands on the others in the series. The characters are so well developed that the reader is drawn to them emotionally. Great book, great author!I recieved this book in a giveaway, and was not paid for my review. All opinions are my own. Love the dystopian thing. Very unique. Strong female lead. I loved that the author did not resort to the same tired devises many other stories do. Our heroine is not the daughter of a rich and powerful family. She's not a lost elfin princess or anything but a relatable young woman fighting battles that seem too great for her to handle on her own. She, and nearly all of the other characters had depth. None were perfect or god-like. I enjoyed "watching" them deal with real world issues that included fear,self-doubt,racism,abuse,shame,grief,family drama and feelings of isolation. I'm very much looking forward to the next book.
