A.K. Turner is hysterical and smart and witty as hell. I am currently reading her second book "Mommy Had A Little Flask" and realized that I had never posted that I read her first book. I was ashamed of myself! I personally hope she keeps writing and reminding me that I am not alone in this whole motherhood thing. living in the bible belt and not attending a church or admitting that I occasionally attend the only Buddhist temple in a 50 mile radius and believes in gay marriage, drinking during the week and never ever using the phrase "well bless your heart", makes me stand out like a sore thumb. Reading her books makes me feel like I've got a friend I can glean valuable children rearing wisdom from by just turning on my kindle (which I can thankfully do one handed, because there is generally some kind of libation in the other).So A.K. Turner, please keep gifting us all with your humour. Think of the sad, open minded mothers trapped in the south without any of our kind to relate to before you decide to put down your pen. We need to laugh too! This book was laugh out loud funny. Every now and then I would just start laughing. My husband eventually stopped looking at me with upraised eyebrows, mostly because he knew I would read out the latest paragraph.If you're sensitive and believe in the perfect parent, this book is probably not for you. If you're fond of drinking, and look at it as a necessary part of life, you'll appreciate her humor! Some things I might have had issues with, but tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and hope she was more kidding than not (mostly dealing with pet ownership, as I am a big fan of dogs).It's a quick, easy read and if it doesn't make you laugh just a little bit, then a margarita might be in order :)
