It's five stars for Michi, Masuro and Kasumi, Yoshi and Jurou, Akhito, Aisha, and godstars, Buruu. And countless more. Yeah, I pretty sure they were flaws here and there, but honestly it hardly matters at the end. The world of Arashitora and ordinary-yet-extraordinary heroes grabs you by the neck and never lets you go, even though your choking with pain. I'm not much of a book-crier, but this book had me had me choking on sobs and raging at the end. I'm not quite sure if I would recommend this series. It tore my heart to shreds and grounded it into a pulp that's now smattered across the carpet floor. I was a downright masochist to pick up this series and continue with it. However, that ending was the most beautiful thing my blubbering tear-rimmed self ever read. I both love and hate Jay Kristoff with a fiery passion. I guess that's the mark of a great book, right?I will say, when reading this series (WHY AREN'T YOU NOW, HAVE I NOT CONVINCED YOU WITH MY PAIN??), make sure to drags someone down into the hellsgate of this series with you. You'll need someone to share your pain with and plot murder for Jay Kristoff when it all ends. Happy, murderous reading all! (This was a great way to end the year) In literally what is an everyone must die or suffer ending, Jay Kristoff unleashes everything and throws everything including the kitchen sink at the rebels. The establishment, the gaijins and the contents of the void. What Kristoff does well is convey an immense sense of danger and loss right throughout the book. The focus does shift a bit from the lead pair allowing the supporting cast to rise into prominence and this is not necessarily a bad thing. Terrific pacing, and packed action scenes make this an engaging read. Yukiko joins the ranks of among speculative fiction's strong and memorable action heroines....
