About book El Libro De Preceptos Del Señor Browne (2014)

365 days of Wonder is an addition to 'Wonder' by R.J Palacio. Wonder is a book about a boy named August who has some kind of sickness that he was born with that made his face different from everyone else. He was homeschooled until he decided to go to public school. 365 Days is a book cover to cover full of inspirational quotes and precepts. Mr.Browne is August's teacher who made all of his students create precepts and make them into a book. A precept is a rule that regulates behavior or thoughts. "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." - Wayne Gretzky. This book is just so inspiring to me, and im sure other people feel the same way. Especially when one of your role models like Wayne Gretzky is it. There are also much much more other people like singers, actors, and athletes. This book isn't just full of quotes it also has fortune cookies, pictures, drawings, and writings. R.J Palacio asked a bunch of elementary kids to read this book and write what means to them. The kids sent them into R.J Palacio and she used them in this book. They mostly wrote about there family and friends and how they were important. This way she is connecting with her audience and she is making a point. In conclusion I think this book isn't just for advanced readers, but it could also just teach anyone a good lesson. Because 365 Days has no page numbers they use the days in a month. So between each month there would be a life lesson. Like how to be a good kid and what's wrong from right. I really enjoyed this book because of how much it changed me. Not physically, but mentally because this book just changed my thinking about what really matters. This is another companion to "Wonder," which I loved. The other supplement to the original was "Julian's Chapter". This was also stellar. I think I would've enjoyed this more had I read it as intended, as a precept-a-day inspirational "calendar". Alas, as it is a library book with a waiting list no less, I had to cram it into a week or two. Most precepts are very thought provoking. Some were familiar to me already, but even these were cause for pause. The short blurbs from Mr. Browne between each month were also very interesting. I am tempted to email this fictitious teacher or one of his students as their email addresses are in these blurbs to see what kind of response I would receive, maybe send him a precept of my own. The author shared in her Acknowledgements that she received over 1200 suggested precepts as she was preparing to write this. I hope R.J. (what DOES the J stand for?) Palacio keeps pumping out such worthy reads.

365 Days of Wonder- Mr. Browne’s Book of Precepts by R.J. Palacio – Perfect read aloud – 4th grade and up- (could go younger with the right teacher) – Absolutely fantastic, fascinating book packed with the most beautiful precepts from those who most deem as wise with words to live by and also with precepts from the wisest of children as well. Loved every minute reading this book. Especially appreciated Mr. Browne’s perspective and story shared at the end of every portion. Well worth a read aloud. Well worth writing up the precepts every day and posting them on your classroom/library door… There are 365 and they are golden. Highly recommended. So grateful to my friend for purchasing the book as a special gift for me…

Fans of R.J. Palacio's Wonder, a book about Auggie and his first experience at a real school and dealing with facial anomalies, will love 365 Days of Wonder. This book is written from the viewpoint of Mr. Browne, Auggie's teacher, and is a collection of precepts he has collected over the years as well as some narrative in regards to some of the precepts and why they are special to him or his students. This is a wonderfully inspiring book and is a quick read, but it won't make a whole lot of sense unless Wonder is read first, which is a book I highly recommend!

Though the precepts are good, this is not another book. Read after Wonder to avoid spoilers.
