I had read Rainshadow Road by the same author and saw this book. Plus it was 3.99 at Barnes and Nobel! It has some of the same characters as the other one. But..instead of being a sequel it actually happens at the same time as the other one but from another character's point of view. So the reader is reminded of the other story periodically. Then there was the introduction of a ghost--usually not my type of story but this ghost worked. He added to the mystery of the story. I also discovered that there is another book in the series so I am anxious to find that one and see how it works with the other two. Her characters were well defined and the setting of two houses enhances the story. Zoe Hoffman is a caretaker for her Grandmother, Emma, who is suffering from dementia. Deciding her Grandmother's old cottage will need updated, Zoe hires contractor Alex Nolan. Just getting over a disastrous marriage, Alex is broke and drowning his troubles in a bottle of whiskey. On top of that, a ghost no one but Alex can see has been following him everywhere. The ghost doesn't know his name of why he is stuck with Alex, but he knows Alex holds the key to finding out his past. This is the 3rd book in the Friday Harbor series and my favorite so far. I didn't care for the paranormal element in the previous book, but I absolutely loved the ghost in this one. Zoe and Alex are both well drawn characters. Alex's alcoholism and Zoe's pain over her Grandmother's condition made the characters feel real. Add to that the red hot chemistry between the two and I couldn't put this book down. My rating: 5 Stars.
