Chi's Sweet Home by Kanata Konami is irresistible as a cuddly, sleepy kitten. It is the story of a little kitten who wanders away from her family and is left to fend for herself. After a few frights, she is found by a family, but the family is not allowed to have pets. What to do? In the meantime Chi is learning how to be part of a family and what she is allowed, and not allowed to do. Denn obwohl die einzelnen Geschichten von einer Japanerin gezeichnet wurden, sind diese nicht wie gewohnt bei Manga schwarz/weiß, sondern koloriert und zudem werden die einzelnen Panels in der europäischen Richtung gelesen und nicht wie in Japan üblich von hinten nach vorne und von rechts nach links.Doch damit will ich mich gar nicht soviel beschäftigen, denn viel wichtiger ist doch der Inhalt und was soll ich dazu sagen, außer, dass mir Chi sofort ans Herz gewachsen ist. Was den Comic wirklich auszeichnet, sind Chis Gesichtsausdrücke, die einem Freuden- und Lachtränen in die Augen treiben und dann natürlich die grandiose Situationskomik.Die Zeichnerin hat sich wirklich einige grandiose Situationen rund um die Katze Chi und ihre neue Familie ausgedacht, die allesamt in relativ kurzen Kapiteln erzählt und abgehandelt werden. Ein wenig hat mich Chi an Garfield erinnert, auch wenn nicht wirklich viele Gemeinsamkeiten vorhanden sind. Doch vom Gefühl her und dem Lachfaktor musste ich einfach an den fetten Kater mit dem Hass auf Montag denken.Fazit | 落着 |Mich konnte die Zeichnerin wirklich mit dem ersten Band ihrer Chi Reihe überzeugen. Chis Gesichtsausdrücke sind einfach zu komisch, um nicht dabei lachen zu müssen und gerade wenn man zwischendurch etwas zum Lachen braucht und abschalten will, ist diese Comic Reihe perfekt geeignet.Freue mich schon auf den zweiten Band!»Mama … wo bist du nur?«
Do You like book El Dulce Hogar De Chi (2004)?
Oh, the cuteness! This is an awesome graphic novel that is excellent for all ages and definitely a must read for cat lovers.Chi (the kitten) gets lost from his mother and then found by a toddler boy. The toddler (Yohei) convinces his mother to take the cat home until they find its owner. Yohei and his family live in an apartment where they can’t have pets. However, as Yohei’s family struggles to find a new home for Chi, they get more and more attached to the little guy. Chi also gets more and more attached to his people and is less anxious to find his kitty mom.The drawings are cartoony with lots of pastel colors. They are very cute and do an excellent job of showing character emotion (including kitty feelings). They will make you laugh and laugh. I am not sure I would recommend this to someone who doesn’t like cats, but if you enjoy cats this book will have you laughing your butt off.Chi is a kitten with a lot of attitude and that “sweet kitten vulnerability” everyone loves. We get to watch as Chi settles into her new home, wins over the family, takes her first vet trip, discovers super balls, and dodges the neighbors. The book is told from Chi’s perspective.This really is fun for all ages. Yohei is fairly young, maybe four or five, and him and Chi get up to some crazy antics. My whole family enjoyed this. I have a seven year old son and he could relate to a lot of scenes between Chi and Yohei. Seriously we read this as a family and could barely even get through parts because everyone was laughing so hard. As soon as we finished the book my son wanted to know if we could get the next one.Overall incredibly cute and hilariously funny with wonderful illustrations throughout. Definitely recommended to cat lovers of all ages out there, seriously this was an awesome read.

My daughter insisted that I read this short graphic novel of a “lovable, hysterical kitten that is filled with fantastic expression.” I do agree with her on the lovable and expressive part but I only found the kitten funny, unlike my daughter who could not stop belly giggling the entire time she was reading. I just really can’t stand baby talk and even though Chi is a kitten its overuse made me cringe. If it weren’t for the baby talk I would recommend this book to reluctant readers reading at a first or second grade level.
