Okay, I picked this up because Chi is possibly one of the cutest (cartoon) kittens I've seen. I adored Chi and her new family. It was adorable. This graphic novel follows along as Chi adapts to her new family (and they to her) while being hidden from the landlady (no cats allowed in building). And Chi's adorable cat antics - some cat owners will recognize in their own cats (or even pet owners in general). It was fun, sweet, and unexpectedly touching - I mean who wouldn't sympathize with poor Chi out on her own for the first time in her life? The artwork was bright and colorful and suited this book well. The one thing I didn't like was the translation - it was a bit too cutesy, I'm not sure if this is the actual translation or if the translator took some liberties but it kind of bothered me. I don't mind that Chi has trouble with L's or R's, I can understand but I wish there was some consistency (it just seemed weird Chi could speak/think sentences - "Can I eat that?" and yet - "I'm Hungwy"). And some of the words were weird: Scarewy, Miulk, Shleeping, Kiwling…I mean most people can understand what they mean but it's a weird (to me) way to write the word - probably because I was trying to sound out the word. Other than that it was fun and bright, simple and charming - I enjoyed it. I finished all of what is published of this comic today. It's SOOOOO CUUUUUUUUTE.It's very slice of life with not much real plot, but it's fun to keep up with this curious little kitten. I think little kids will enjoy it because it's about learning to explore the world around you. Nothing too too bad happens (it gets resolved pretty quickly), which isn't exactly true to life, but it's definitely not a bad thing. I'd love for my library to have a collection of this manga. It's so sweet.
Do You like book Chi Une Vie De Chat, Tome 1 (2004)?
There's no getting away from it, Chi is almost criminally adorable. I dare you to read this series and not be going aaaawwwww cute within the first few pages. Saying that It's not sickly sweet, more playful & fun. The brilliant illustrations really capture chi's mischievous behaviour and silly antics. But more impressive is the way the illustrations give Chi a character full of emotion. You really feel the sense of the discovery and delight.

How can you resist the cuteness? This was recommended to me by a colleague who reads manga (not my thing but it looks like I may become a convert). Chi the lost kitten gets taken in by a young family. We see the story from Chi's POV: getting lost, learning to use the litter box, bonding with the family, playing and her first vet visit. It's adorable and the author really has a knack for capturing cat behavior. Great kids' manga.
