I like the gothic fantasy feel of this first volume. The fairy (doctor) Lydia sees and interacts with the fairy world. It is a skill inherited and passed down from her mother. The Earl is an enigmatic and dark character who seeks an item that will fulfill. He doesn't believe in the world or magic of fairies, but that doesn't stop him from luring Lydia in and using her to get what he wants. As with most gothic tales, there is much more to our "dark" characters than we realize. So we simply must keep reading to uncover the hidden truth. The Earl and the Fairy Volume 1 by AyukoWanted: The Earl and the Fairy Volume 1 by Ayuko. Wanted for:1. Having a Mary-Sue protagonist 2. Being so confusing that reading it a second time will only make things worseLydia is a naïve, wear-her-heart-on-her-sleeve kind of girl. So not a very good protagonist. She makes stupid decisions and any time she has a good idea, she goes against it. At the end, when Lydia was arguing with Edgar right before drugging him, she says “despite your sad story, you’re still a liar and a thief” which is so ridiculous it’s laughable. First off all, she says at least twice, she has no money. And she lost her luggage on Huxley’s ship. Second, he’s also a killer. Maybe she ought to be more worried about that even though he needs her and therefore he is no threat. And everyone just has so many names. Headache.
