I'm helpless to these dystopian society books, which is why I've replaced reading these first two books instead of sleeping the last two nights. The themes of identity were creative with the division of society into personality types-I can see the adolescent draw to this particular plot. It's clear why people may compare this series to the Hunger Games but instead of one centralized greed, this series delves into societies greed as a whole spread out behind the façade of peaceful democracy. This is where these books appeal to possibly an older audience as well. It's intriguing to see how the different factions/personality types identify their roles in peace and governance. I prefer this series over the Hunger Games-more realistic when it comes to societal control, it's never one power that's oppressive and when all have a chance at power-the same themes of greed come into play and history inevitably repeats itself. The Divergent series is about a world where people are changing human nature and dividing them into groups, depending on the way their brains work. This system eventually falls apart when people realize that not everyone fits in. There is a group of people, called Divergent, who don’t work the same way as everyone else. They can resist the way that people control and use the people from the other groups, or factions. This book and the book before it have powerful messages and themes, as well are romance, action, and amazing description and plot twists that make this book a real page-turner. You just won’t be able to put these books down! The first book is better, but they both are amazing. I loved how the second book began basically where the first book left off, instead of summarizing the first book or skipping a lot of time in between. I love Tris’s exciting, selfless, persistent, dangerous, adventurous character and Four’s intense past life and ultimate devotion for Tris. I can’t wait to read the third book!!!
