I'd really give this 3.5. I'm a big fan of Greek myths, so the story of Odysseus and the Greek heroes after Troy appealed to me. And that part of the book kept me hooked. The story put new twists on the old myths and gods. It was fun. The current day story, with the heroine who wrote comic books, wasn't as strong for me, and it made the plot sag. I liked the idea of the magical storeroom, but the book wasn't consistent for me. When Evie Walker learns that her father is dying, she returns home.At the same time, several powerful nations are on the brink of war.Vaughn uses the Iliad as a starting point and includes several other well-known archetypes; including: Robin Goodfellow, Arthur, and Merlin.The story reminded me of Pierce Anthony's "Incarnate of Immortality" series.The underlying theme has a strong Feminist vive.
I always think things like this are going to be metaphors, but it's literally about Discord's Apple.
