I spent a large portion of my reading time wondering what the point of this novella was. The plot did not classify as much of an adventure, nor were the new characters Castor and Pollux fleshed out to make them interesting. Kate is immediately sympathetic to their plight as fugitives from the laws of the Underworld and the pride of Zeus, but the author did not craft this story in a way to make the reader sympathetic. I was constantly thinking what Pollux asks Kate: "Why do you care?"The ending concluded the point of this short story to be a way for Kate to realize the Gods were not always the "good guys" and that she wants to use her voice on the council to inflict change and compassion to the way things are handled. I suppose it's good to know where her loyalties rest in the transition from first to second book, but I still feel as if I have wasted my time. This was actually my first audio book, and the novella seems like a good way to start. While I really loved the main series itself, this novella is a good filler, but not amazing. I found myself through the whole plot wanting Kate and Henry to bump into each other and I definitely think that I will have to listen to this again, because I did tune out for some of the scenes, not because of the story, just that I start reading other stuff, and well, yeah. In conclusion, if you never read this novella, you will not miss any secret links to it through the main series, but it is a good extra look into the characters and world.
