About book Der Monstrumologe Und Die Insel Des Blutes (2013)
MIGHT CONTAIN SOME SPOILERSAfter reading The Monstrumologist and The Curse of the Wendigo, I was expecting an equally epic and captivating story, however, I found myself being thoroughly disappointed. While the book certainly has its familiar gory and dark details, it's also composed of long boring bits that couldn't hold my interest for more than a few seconds, I read the first two books the span of three days and I was equally hungry for this book, which made it really sad when it took me about three weeks to finish it, simply because I just wasn't interested enough. As heartbreaking as it was seeing Will Henry go down dark paths for which he found some rather questionable validations, it was his journey that made this book readable at all, and the way Will Henry's growing cynicism and hardheartedness threw The Monstrumoligst in a very different light, in this book we are able to see Warthrop's softer and more humble bits. While it's true that I wanted to yell at the Doctor because we all knew what would happen to Will's heart if he kept up his business with Monstrumology, I also felt for him, for I know he cares about Will Henry and it's disturbing to him to see Will Henry develop such dark thoughts. If you're still reading this, perks to you, because this review is messy and confusing, don't bother reading this book. The "Monster" is not worth it (spoiler alert: there isn't really a monster, it was humanity all along), preciously keep your soft and tender memories for tiny Will Henry in your heart, for it will break you to read what's happening to him, and find some other book to read. I believe this is the strongest book in the series. There is a trope in romance novels in which the woman falls in love with a guy whose behaviors she hates, and who she seems to fundamentally this white on many levels, yet she loves him and cannot leave him. It is easy to find romances with that sort of a theme in it. It is far less t easy to find this sort of dynamic in horror novel. For this reason, and because I think it is just excellent storytelling, I feel this is the strongest book in the series.

Much better than the second book. I both love and fear Will so much more after reading this one.
