2/5UNFINISHED (2012)The first few chapters of this novel were great. It was well-written and I connected immediately with the the main character. After that, it quickly devolves into cardboard-cutout characters and predictable and flat dialogues. And of course our main character turns out to be more than what she seems, everyone just adores her and soon the world revolves around her. It was predictable and cliched. I couldn't bear to read past the half way point and just skimmed the rest. The only reason this novel is getting 2 stars is for its first few chapters and its lovely cover. I read this book after seeing it advertised on my newsfeed as being a freebie. The cover had actually caught my eye previously so when I saw the author stating that it was going to be free for a time, I pretty much jumped all over it.I devoured the book in two days which is pretty impressive considering that I spent about 3 hours in the car driving to and from work both days and worked 9 1/2 hours each day. I found myself walking to and from my car reading on my phone. I also found myself needing to read while I was walking to the restroom..lol Suffice to say, I actually very much got sucked into this book after the first few pages. Initially, I might have been scratching my head, but by the end of the first chapter, I was having trouble putting the book down. Guess what? This is book one! So yes, you could read it without fear of having missed something. The other good news? There's at least a book two! And I'd hope for more. I haven't actually gotten around to checking that. Will I read the next book? YES! I'm actually debating on whether I want to go buy and read book two now. That's not something that I normally do- I usually finish a book and then will need a break from the world so I find myself reading something else. Will I recommend this book to anyone? Yes, I will. I actually posted on a friend's page. I totally hope that she picked it up. But this is a book that I really did like.
