I really do not think that this book should exist. The story was perfectly complete by book 11. I loved the whole idea of adding girls to the Ranger Corps, but I feel like this book kind of unravels a lot of what book 11 was meant to do - finish the story in a satisfactory way. With the addition of book 12, the series really could just continue on indefinitely. This is not an ending. Perhaps it should have been the start of another series instead of just another book tacked on to a series that already exists and is perfectly fine the way it is. Good. Better than #10. I am glad there is an actual apprentice again and someone who is under twenty. The characters are growing up, and I saw an easy way for a thirteenth book to grow (more Will and Maddie with Maddie's grandfather's death and new girl rangers and a threat to the kingdom!).Too bad about Alyss. I wonder why she and Will never had kids, and why Cassandra and Horace only had one.
Fun, easy, clean read. Recommended it to my 11 y/o daughter and she loved it

A solid, reliable ending to a strong series for readers both young and old.

Good, but left open ended and could write more off of it.

Another great entry in the series.
