About book Crush It!: Why Now Is The Time To Cash In On Your Passion (2009)
Being a book related to technology, the book reflects the time when it was written and with social media much has changed since then. The core concepts are generally solid ideas. I didn't find the book to be as helpful as I had hoped it would be mainly since many of his suggestions are things that I already do: write books, speak at conferences, etc, etc. I also have little desire to make my work all consuming as he suggests and find that working in spurts is more aligned with the way my brain is wired. For a lot of this book, I thought it was going to be a four. Not because it starts off good & ends crappy - in fact, all the good stuff's at the end. It's just that... I really thought he was gonna drop some bombs. I thought shit was gonna get real. Instead, a lot of it felt like common sense. This isn't a diss to the book or Gary - this book was done awhile ago, & this kind of world moves really quickly. Maybe a lot of it didn't seem like common sense then. I guess net stars have become so ubiquitous, & for the stupidest shit... I look forward to reading some of Gary's more recent work to see where all this leads, but for the most part, I think this one can be skipped (unless you really want to do the things it promises on the back & you really don't have a clue where to start).
