About book Connections (2012)

Mehhh. I continue to try short stories in an effort of finding an interesting hit without the commitment of 10 hours that a 300+ page story can demand. I don't quite know if the author meant something profound with this story of a gift girl (an SAT score of 1540 -- 60 points shy of perfect) being disenchanted and completely unchallenged in college. A lonely and alone girl making calls to random people around the country, as what? a cry for help? Maybe this is a simple story, or maybe there is more beneath the 48 pages to noodle. There were times I was worried for her, concerned for what risk she was putting herself into with her behavior. Though, by the end, I was ready to move onto another book. I liked it. The instant attraction. (even if it was just over the phone) it was a happy ending that I loved because someone who had no one and only connected to people through the phone found someone to connect with in person.I was a bit... Unsettled because to me it was sort of unresolved. It never actually said why she called people on the phone. (yes, for connection, but why? Why the phone? Why need connection not in person)And of course. We don't really have the full of the romance. We only know they're attracted to each other and like each other, we never see them fall in love exactly. There is no mention of love at all. It feels so unresolved without these. I need more. I need to understand her reasons for the phone connection, I need the love they're supposed to have. And for some insane reason, even if I am unsettled, I still like this book and rate it 5 stars.

Great little story! If only the prank calling of my youth had such delicious results!

This was an odd story, but interesting and different. Can't go wrong with a freebie!

What a waste of time! Just plain pointless and weird!
