About book Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, And The Education Of A President (2011)
This is a great book which explains some of the reasons behind the 2007-2010 financial issues. It talks about derivatives, mortgages, and Wall Street practices which lead to the problems and the reactions of the Obama administration during 2009-2011. The book is not very complimentary to Larry Summers and a few other political heavyweights, but it was well researched with deep access including a sit down interview with the President in the Oval Office. After reading this book, you realize we're still hanging over the economic precipice. Short of it: villains: Wall Street, Larry Summers, Rahm Emannuel, Timothy Geithner, Chris Dodd. Heroes: Paul Volker, Gensler, Brooke Born, Romer, Rouse, the Lady from Harvard Law, forgot her name, and many more. Wall Street since the repeal of Glass Stegall and the cheap money policies of Alan Greenspan have fucked this nation for the last 30 years, and after the worst crash in history, nothing has been done to fix it. Read it and weep with fear and gnash your teeth with anger. Great read by the way!
