About book Classic Fairy Tales (2012)

The classic Fairytales, so cleverly written and amusingly told that you can't help but love them. I've always adored collections of short stories and these are perfect! There is the right balance of humour and sadness, tales of morality told in the most captivating manner. The kinds of stories that prepare children for the real world, and remind adults of how to deal with tricky situations and people. All around a brilliant read, and as relevant today as when it was written. What I love about Andersen is the range of feelings he transmits, especially the hard ones. Loneliness and sadness find different shades in his stories so that they not always end up looking so dark although they are still real enough. When one reads “The Ugly Duck”, “Little Mermaid”, “The little Match Girl”, or the “The Snow Queen” it is possible to observe that Andersen deals with loss, desertion and the cruel inflexibility of destiny with a soft touch of hope that gives way to light and acceptance of such true and difficult scenarios, which are not far away from what lots of people go through every day, everywhere. That is why I rated these collection of tales four stars. I really love authors who make you connect with universal human feelings and emotions. In fact I think all of us had been through an “Andersen’s tale” experience more than once in life.
