First time reading a Tia Fielding book. I liked it! The characters are memorable and I liked the concept of the shifter safe house. The threats with rogue ones coming in to try to take over the place was a nice touch. What I liked was the healing part for the Tiger shifter. I also feel as though there should be more to the story so I'm happy to see it is only the first. Recommended to shifter lovers who enjoy m/m romance. (2.5 stars)I don't know if it's because this is shorter than my normal preference or not, but I found that there was something missing here. Mikael is a half-shifter - human father and unknown shifter mother: unknown as she died giving birth to Mikael, and his father refused to speak of her after losing the love of his life. However, in honor of his late wife, Mikael's father built a shifter sanctuary in Finland, near the Russian border, which Mikael now runs after his father passed away. It is when he hears a wounded large cat's cry that he stumbles across a tiger in his woods, a tiger barely clinging to life. Nursing the tiger back to health, he learns that the tiger is Maxim.Up until this point, the story was working well, but after this it seemed a bit rushed, including a style of sex coming into play without any discussion - something that bothered me. There was also another wounded large cat rescued - whose story was glossed over without any resolution. No doubt it is the lead-in for the next novella in the series. Overall, the basic premise of the story was okay, it is the execution of it that leaves me dissatisfied.
