About book Chew, Vol. 2: International Flavor (2010)
God, this series is great. In the beginning of this book, either the illustrator or the writer - I forget which - thanks the show "Lost" for its inspiration. Which makes this book the best thing by far to come out of the shithole of a show that was lost: it manages to be creepy and gross and weird and funny and interesting all at the same time. It's fairly rare that I have no idea where a story is going, but that's absolutely the case with Chew: with any luck, he didn't take THAT tip from Lost, and will actually end the series in a way that isn't infuriating and condescending to its readers.Anyway, read it. This is awesome. Finally, a comic book that lives up to the hype. This second volume is an absolute page-turner that exceeded my expectations; the new characters introduced are brilliantly crafted and the twists and turns in the story are very well thought out. The Chew Universe is fascinating and full of surprises. John Layman and Rob Guillory set the bar very high with Chew Vol. 2, and I will keep my hopes very high for the next volumes, expecting them to dazzle me again and again.
