My love for this series just continues to grow. In Chaos in Mudbug, there are some repeated ideas (broken boat/type of criminal enterprise), yet Deleon continues to craft unique adventures that border on the thriller genre. What pulls it back is the humor brought out by Ghost-in-Law, Helena. We learn a bit more about ghosts in this book or, I should say, we learn how much we don't know when Jadyn, Maryse, and Mildred discover how odd Helena's existence really is. In addition to the funniness that happens when she becomes solid (though still invisible), she can manifest things! How is that possible? Personally, I found it rather thrilling and would love the series to continue to explore outer limits of Helena's ghostly abilities. The bayou continues to provide great atmosphere, but there is a change a comin'. I have read all 6 books in this series. This book was one of the best. I have never laughed so much reading a book as I have this one. I could just visualize Helena doing some of the antics she pulled. Helena's outfits were a blast, but she didnt top the lettuce outfit in one of her earlier adventures. There is lots of humor, adventure, and a little romance enough to keep me interested from the first page to last.I am really looking forward to more of Helena's adventures. I think this series would make a good tv series.
