About book Brain Rules For Baby (Updated And Expanded): How To Raise A Smart And Happy Child From Zero To Five (2014)
I was lucky to receive this book as a giveaway on goodreads. I really enjoyed this book. The author writes about complex brain processes in a way that makes them easy to understand. While I do have children, I am an early childhood educator. I also plan to have children one day, and I want to be prepared to raise them in a way that allows them to reach their fullest potential. While reading this book, I learned facts about children's development I didn't already know. Information is presented in simple, easy to understand terminology. Research-based strategies are suggested by the author as tools parents might use to best help their child learn and grow. I like that the author is not pushing a specific product or agenda, but rather it is practical advice parents can immediately put to use. I feel this book is a worthwhile read for anyone seeking to have a positive impact on young children. There are numerous parenting books available and this one stands out. This book, written by a neuroscientist, draws on scientific studies and explains the findings in concise, practical terms. He explains what the research means not in technical terms, but in ordinary ones that everyone can understand. He also explains what the research doesn't mean and clarifies some common myths too. I liked that the book was well researched and scientifically based, that the book was well organized into manageable topics, and enjoyed reading it. The only part I didn't like about the book were the anecdotes by parents pulled from Internet websites in order to further elaborate on some topics. I felt those did not add to the book in any meaningful way.
