Wow! Eric Metaxas did an amazing job telling a detailed account of Dietrich's life without putting me to sleep!This book was packed with personal accounts and interactions with Dietrich and his closest friends and family. It was put together in a way that allowed me to get to know Dietrich intimately while still keeping me engaged in the overall arch of the historical time in which it was set. I felt like I knew Dietrich personally and like I was watching the struggle with Hitler play out in real time.Thanks Eric Metaxas for such a great work! This is a tough book in a lot of ways. I feel like I barely survived intellectually and emotionally. I learned a great deal of history. There was opportunity to learn 10 times what I did, but I didn't have the focus, time or intellectual prowess to pull it off. I was occasionally bothered by the presumption of the author to project inner thoughts into his subjects. I am moved and inspired by the story of this gentle, brave man.
Shed many tears, read with wide-eyed wonder mixed with horror, and felt thoroughly inspired.
