3.5 really. It would have been a 4, but the idea that Mack could kick the ass of shapeshifters and had fire in her blood, yet they all kept going on about how 'human' she was, was a little stupid and irritating to me. She also made some pretty stupid, immature decisions, which again were irritating, but overall I thi k lots of potentially interesting things have been set up, so I'm going to give the next one a try. 2.5 stars= okay. I did this in audio which was a double edged sword. I really liked the reader, her accents were just the ticket. But audio slows a story down, which is not always a problem. Here though it accentuated my biggest nits with the story. First the big secret is telegraphed early on and I spent much of the book waiting for Chekhov's Drako Wyr(Um, I mean smoking gun) to come into play. Second, the heroine Mack is rash, hot tempered, and slow to put things together which is not my favorite combo. There are interesting side character but they and their relationships with Mack are thin. And there is a big buildup to a confrontation with the big bad that is resolved way too easily and the fallout of all the events in the story end this on a weird note.Despite my obvious frustration, this wasn't an awful listen and I really did like rural Cornwall as a fantasy setting but the ending especially didn't draw me into the next book even though I have it and it's other siblings sitting on Mount TBR.
Do You like book Bloodfire (2012)?
This reminded me of a grown up version of the Percy Jackson books. Lots of action too
