spoilers below!This book is haunting me. I have to give Ella Frank a big shout out here. Many books you read and leave. As a life long book junkie I can tell you that very few characters stay with you. I loved the setting, the twisty plot and the different POV's. You know from the beginning it going to be dark, you just don't know how dark. A lot of writers advertise a dark plot line, when in fact the characters just say F&&k a lot and carry a gun. This book is completely twisted and I loved it.Spoilers!I have two complaints. 1. I did not like the fight scene at the party. I don't think accusations of cheating needed to be brought up. I feel that the party and Phillipe being drawn away so much would have been enough to provoke a fight. 2. The Death Scene.. I did not like this. I'm sorry you don't hold the person you love and let them die. I just don't feel that this was true to who Phillipe was. The whole scene feel contrived, like Ella was searching for a death that would always lay blame on Phillipe. I actually hated it...I do hope that down the road Ella Frank gives Phillipe absolution and a happy ending. He is a man of passion and beauty he deserves to walk in the light. Sorry I just didn't get this. At first I thought it was because it was so dark, but I've read a fair bit of dark and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was just too weird.The world it occurs in is too small, and the storyline is singularly about a tortured guy not being able to accept love...twice.The sex was just creepy as far as I was concerned, anal is the forbidden pinnacle...REALLY? Maybe if this book was written in the 19th century.Someone had told me hang in to the end (which I usually do unless a book is poorly written - this book is very well written...) because I would be shocked at the twist. Duh?And finally it was just TOO melancholy for me. I read to escape, and I hope that at the end, regardless of the darkness of the story, I am left with resolution, fulfillment or some other sense of joy from it. This just left me drained, asking what the hell was all that about...
