Honestly, I started skimming the book after chapter 30.There are several moments on this book where things are just thrown in. There are no explanation, no background and no feelings. I understand Elizabeth must love her kid but it doesn´t show at any moment this bond or this devastating moment where you find out your kid is sick. And... I don´t, maybe it´s just me, but if I was a single parent and my kid was dying... I would stop working to take care of him and make sure I spend enough time with him. The overload of cases she carries is ridiculous, including the semi-relationship with Aidan. I mean I didn´t understand one second of their relationship together. The kid is sick, very sick apparently. If I am not mistaken at some part of the book it said something about months or weeks, and yet he has strength enough go out and play. We don't get any glimpse of how Mommy is with Cass, but suddenly it is Mommy, Daddy and Cass, although Cass doesn't know he is Daddy. But nonetheless, Aidan can make Cass do whatever and Elizabeth is left explaining that she would have to bribe her own child to have him to something. I'm sorry, but this doesn't sound much mature to me. I understand that bribe is very common, but in this case it didn't show much of "responsible, great mom" look for Elizabeth. But hey, maybe that´s just me. Yes, the story is cute, it makes you feel bad and sad for the kid... I even shed a few tears in the beginning but as the story progressed I got more confused. Oh, and btw I think they were all very detached characters. No one had real depth or plausible reactions. This book could be really good if the writing was better. I think the plot is good, but the characters lack emotion and empathy. The romance between Aidan and Elizabeth is completely hidden in my opinion, I would have never guessed they even knew each other once upon a time. And 6-year old Cass, is just an excuse in this book. I didn´t believe on anybodies actions. Sad, so so sad. 4.5 tearful stars!Another author who manages with the skill of her artistic words creating a great Novel. She manages to bring two characters to life, enrapturing us with the pain, suffering and sadness revolving around them. There's so much happening in this one novel with so many characters intertwined. So looking forward to catching up with them all future novels. A great novel worth reading!

Cass made this book what it was. The last 30% were heartbreaking and still so beautiful.
