About book Belle Weather: Mostly Sunny With A Chance Of Scattered Hissy Fits (2008)
I like Rivenbark's style of Southern humor - she's a female Dave Barry/Lewis Grizzard, holding up a mirror to much of Southern life. The section on home remodeling is great - I thought I would cry I laughed so hard about her killing the wasps with Pledge (it didn't kill them but they were really shiny and mad). So much of what she says is dead on. I liked the section with examples of Customer Dis-Service. She says it's "just evidence of a growing culture of crappy behavior that hangs around like a fart in a hot shower. You can't get rid of it, and the most maddening part of it is when they act like they're doing you a favor." Rivenbark is a Southern woman - and it shows. Loved this and will be looking for more from her. Like the previous Rivenbark book that I listened to, this one provided consistent laugh out loud moments. There's nothing at all momentous here, but she doesn't try to be anything more than a light-hearted humor essayist, and at this she definitely succeeds. She narrates her own audiobooks, and could slow down a bit, sometimes her readings are rushed. I like to listen to Rivenbark while doing housework, it certainly makes the work go faster.

If Lewis Grizzard and Erma Bombeck had a child it would be this lady. She is very funny.
