Magdalena's adventures continue. The town of Hernia is the scene of poisoned pancakes. And guess who gets called in by the overmatched sheriff? Yes, Mayor Magdalena who suddenly goes into labor and thus does her sleuthing as a new mother. The next one of these I read has to be from earlier in the series. A flaw in the two books I've read in the Pennsylvania Dutch Mysteries is all of the back story. While well handled it does urge one to read other books. Clever. Too much clever in places where there are characters that are developed in another story and thus are not fully appreciated. An entertaining GoodRead. I accidently read this perhaps next to the last in the series (and I just realized this is the 3rd 17th in a series this month!) So there were many spoilers-now I must go find the beginning books! The book is very cute. It is a murder mystery that includes pancake recipes interspersed through out the chapter. The Mennonite heroine is an amateur detective, who is 49, rich, pregnant, married to a Jewish Dr., whose mouth has no filter, and I found her hysterically funny. I was laughing outloud on the plane as I was reading it. If you want a cute, light, funny mystery, this is the book for you.
Do You like book Batter Off Dead (2009)?
A pretty good mystery. Not the usually suspects or detective.

I enjoy this series but it does wander some.
