May I introduce Barry, a fish that must as of yet been undiscovered until this moment as I've never seen him in my Encyclopaedia of animals and believe me, I've looked.Barry is blessed with having fingers, thus can do things other fish cannot do; he can make finger puppets, tickle other fish etc. In short he's the bees knees to the other fish. Ofcourse his fingers are made of breaded fish fingers.... How these don't get wet and soggy is a puzzle to me!!Before Barry comes along the puffer fish is the king of the crop, as, afterall, he can inflate and deflate at will... Cool party trick!!With Barry in the limelight the puffer fish feels jealous and left out but after great pages of rhythmic pattern and beautiful coloured illustrations. All the fish learn to play together by the end and form a band.... Barry on Piano, puffer fish on Sax!!A great book. Nearly as good as Norman, the snail with a silly shell! Barry is no ordinary fish. You see, Barry has fish fingers for fingers. He can also talk, obviously. It's a lovely story about making the best of the special talents and abilities you are born with. Barry demonstrates that we are all different but if we work together we can achieve more than if we work alone. It's also about forming a band with other fish and having fish fingers for fingers. I read this to my two year old niece and she loved it but I think it would be best used with either a Reception or Year 1 class. A really fun story to share with your class at the end of the day.
