About book Back On Murder (2010)

I give “Back on Murder” a 2 or a 2.5. I got this book as a free download from a book service. My expectations were low and were easily met. It was a decent plot and I enjoyed meeting Roland March and the other characters. There were sufficient complications to keep me reading. March is a past-his-prime homicide detective who is trying to recapture the drive and skill that he had before a family tragedy, a tragedy echoed in the plot. I might try a 2nd one but it won't be soon because there are so many other series in this genre that are better. I learned later that this is considered “safe” for Christians because the author doesn't use bad words or write about sex, though March does fantasize about getting together with a young female police officer. I hate to reveal a heathenish side but I probably would have enjoyed a bit more grit in the language and a touch of titillation in the action. Sorry, I like naughty books. As it turned out I did enjoy this book very much. The main character is Detective Roland March of the Houston Police Department. As the book opens he is on the bottom of the pecking order in the homicide department. This is due to something that happened a few years previous but the author is very clever about keeping you in suspense on that point. Det. March picks up a case which he hopes will get him back on top. One thing I really liked about the story is that unlike so many detective types March is married and he wants his marriage to work. March is a tough cop but with a soft spot. This book is the first in a series of 3 books.I give this book a two thumbs up and look forward to reading the next in the series.
