I liked this book a little more than the first one in that while it continued to have vibrant characters (including of course, all the new ones) and obviously the same background, the storyline was little less predictable. Unfortunately this book took a slightly darker turn which while I probably should have expected, I wasn't exactly looking forward to. Granted the plot of the first book wasn't the happiest thing in the world, but the book still felt like a light read to me--which I liked--and for some reason the deaths and hardships in the second book hit home harder for me than they did in the first. This is of course, something they may be a bonus or a hurdle for the reader depending on their preferences. Looking forward to more Hadrian and Royce! No spoilers here.An enjoyable second book in the series, although the book can be read as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading the first book, The Crown Conspiracy to get a better background on the earlier events. In the second installment, we are again spending a good deal of time with out heroes Hadrain and Royce as they embark on another mission, this time at the begging of a young woman. As the story unfolds Sullivan gives us more insight into their pasts and origins, with some discoveries and further character development. Just picked up the third book in the series, looking forward to it.
