About book As Cartas Secretas Do Monge Que Vendeu O Seu Ferrari (2012)

This is a decent book. Simply written. The book is taking Jonathan on a journey of self discovery. He is supposed to travel to nine different places and at each destination a person is waiting to demonstrate N important lesson in life and will give him a small note summarizing the same lesson with a small talisman. Jonathan begins this journey quite reluctantly because it seems to be imposed on him T a time when he has a lot more to deal with at his job. As expected, through this journey he learns the important lessons and vows to bring his life back into his own control and making it more meaningful and satisfying. The lessons are invaluable and I think anyone who has spent time reflecting on their lives would conclude all these things. So, in that this book was quite simple and there was nothing out of ordinary. I personally have learnt all these things through my own journey called life and I can testify that these lessons hold truth and key to happiness. But I learnt nothing new nor did I get any food for thought through this book..... that explains the three stars. In addition, I doubt it that anyone can learn these lessons just by reading such a book. This is the reason, Jonathan was not just given a book to read to learn these lessons but was actually given time to reflect on his life to learn these lessons. One lesson I did not agree with completely: According to this book the ultimate goal of life is "to love", according to me it is to "be happy". I think the latter encompasses the former and a lot more. I did enjoy reading about various places he visited esp about the Japanese culture briefly and also a brief note about Mayan civilization. Japan was always one place I had a desire to travel to. But now, in addition, this book has created in me the desire to travel to Mexico as well to see the remains of the Mayan civilization. Most likely, I will travel to these countries in an inexpensive way, through books. In my opinion, this book is a really good one. I am sure that you will get a lot of motivation to live in a better way from this book and if you are among those who read motivational books and just forget them after reading, ofcourse this is not for you...but if you are a person who really wants to make some small positive changes in the way you live, I would suggest you to read this one...Definitely you will get great amount of positive energy from this 'secret letters'..! There is no preaching and no hard core theories...it is really simple...I loved those secret letters...they are really great and the author made them as simple as possible so that any one can read and digest the thought of those letters...I think almost all of us are like Jonathan that we don't really have time to do or care for those things that really matter in our life...if you think that you are fed up with daily routines and you want to breathe some fresh air, then you must pick up this book...I loved reading this book and i could definitely make some positive (even very small!) changes in my life ..And i love to read those letters over and over again!!
