This is a series review because I read all the books continuously in one go and it's hard to distinguish between them all now. I didn't put these books down, I barely got three hours sleep when reading this series and it took me two days to read all of them. This book is amazing I love the plot so much, the characters are well developed all of them and I mean WOW. I am speechless with this series, it had me laughing so loud and then crying at some points as well and I am not much of a crier either. I would highly recommend this book if you enjoy young adult fantasy. Are you serious??? Sometimes I read a book and really wonder if I'm just completely crazy, because everyone raves about it and I can't stand it. So many things are wrong with this book.The writing is bland and choppy. Fine is obsessed with one sentence paragraphs and has pages of just one sentence paragraphs. Though there are three POV characters/narrators, their voices all sound identical.The characters are predictable and mostly boring. Of course, Scarlet is a tomboy with no fashion sense and an awkward loner and has a best friend who is bubbly and into fashion. I see this friendship pairing all the time in YA novels and it makes me wonder were are all these gorgeous Barbie dolls that hang out with loner tomboys? As a former loner tomboy, I can tell you that the bubble, social butterflies had no interest in people outside of their social circle. Her friend is often rude and critical of Scarlet and though she has some redeeming qualities, like loyalty, I was left wondering why they were friends. Scarlet is forgettable.The heroes are fairly typical with their angsty, love stricken personalities. But mostly I got to the point where Scarlet's curse is explained and found myself wondering if the only reason Scarlet keeps dying is because she's hanging around with Tristan, why do they keep popping up in her life? Yes, they are cursed and it sounds as though this time the curse has gotten stronger, but it sounds as though they could have just done the right thing and let her go to live her life. They freak out about her getting too close to Tristan, but at the same time they keep pushing the two of them together. It makes no sense and makes me think they're just selfish, because they want her in their lives more than they want her not to die. They act all sad about the fact that she's had to suffer, but then they immediately pop up into her life again.The plot is super similar to Alyson Noel's "Immortals" series. The world has a lot of the same feel to it. Immortal teenagers who keep getting separated because the one who isn't fully immortal keeps dying and in this life's incarnation there is something different going on that will change everything. It even has the whole bitter, angry ex-girlfriend from hell. Except it is the fountain of youth rather than alchemy that has given them immortality and she added a dash of Vampire Diaries with the whole brothers love triangle to it.The book itself has no plot to it. Yes, things happen, but there is no beginning, middle, and end. It is part of a series, but cannot stand on its own in any way, since it only asks tons of questions and doesn't answer a single one. Nothing they set out to do in the first book is resolved. Just because you're doing a series, doesn't mean that each book shouldn't have a beginning, middle, and end. Something needs to be accomplished in the story and in this case, nothing was. The only thing that showed any kind of progress is that Scarlet went from knowing nothing about her past to knowing a little.And it ends on a major cliffhanger, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. I don't mind mysteries lingering, but it drives me crazy when authors drop bombs or looks like they're killing off a character (or in this case both). I've said it before, but it's lazy writing. I love mystery and surprises, but stopping a story just as someone has just been fatally wounded is not an ending--it's holding the story hostage.
