About book An Ex To Grind In Deadwood (2014)

If the book starts with an apartment full of cuckoo clocks a decapitated body and a shrunken head or heads, well count me in for the read. Reading this book was a lot of fun, and it was much better, than the previous one. However, even in this installment Violet’s parenting, real estate, and diplomatic skills left me wanting to give her a stern talk. She has improved, but even now she spends a lot more time on trying to unravel the mystery, than on trying to get traction in her real life, which has her always on the verge of financial ruin. On a lighter note, I did find myself laughing out loud at a few one liners and still enjoy the other quirky characters.Unfortunately I was a little confused in the beginning of who did what and why and how this was connected to anything, probably because it's been so long between books and I didn’t reread the previous installments. The ending was very frustrating. No fear of spoilers, because nothing gets solved anyway. The story just leaves you hanging with no real conclusion. It is maddening that the later books in this series leave almost everything open. And I am not talking about leaving some threads hanging; I am talking about Telenovela worthy cuts in the middle of a scene or conversation that could bring tiny bit of a revelation. It's an entertaining read for rainy afternoons, though it doesn't make much sense without the previous installments. Hoever, I haven't decided yet if I am going to read the continuation, for never ending storys do have a tendency to annoy me. It felt like forever waiting for this to come out... but it's here!! To me, this book was a bit slower on the action than the others...until you get to the last 1/3. Holy suspense, Batman! (You'll see what part I'm talking about.) I just love how all the characters interact, they seem so real! This book really sets up the next one...I feel like there will be quite a bit of action in it. Hope I'm right!
