About book Amelia Bedelia's First Day Of School (2009)

I love to read about Amelia Bedelia's mishaps with taking phrases literally. I kind of wish Amelia Bedelia was always a young child in other books instead of an adult. I mean it has always been fun to watch the literal reactions to phrases in Amelia Bedelia books, but it would have made more sense to always have her as a child. I understand how it may be difficult to understand language sometimes for young kids and this is a fun way for them to learn all about phrases that do not necessarily mean exactly what they sound like. Also an excellent first day of school book for kids of all ages! I remember reading Amelia Bedelia books as a child and enjoying them. Amelia Bedelia is a little girl who prefers to be called by her whole name and she takes everything literally. This particular book was about Amelia going to school. Amelia is excited about her first day of school. For example, she is excited about having a new teacher, making new friends, having her own desk, taking music, gym, and art. Amelia can’t wait! As a teacher, I would read this story at the beginning of the year because it is funny. This story could help take away any butterflies the students may have about being in a new class. One of my goals is to make students feel welcome as soon as they step into my classroom. I believe the most important part of the first day is helping students feel comfortable and enthusiastic about attending school.
