About book All Spell Breaks Loose (2012)

3 stars and that was a slight bump up.The good of the book is good but the constant reflections on what is going to happen or how Raine feels took over this book for me. Yes, this reflecting on whether she is bad and in control, whether this will happen or predicting that will, happens in all the books but I just was overly tired with it in this one, mainly because it didn't really further Raine in any way. Serad Nukpana monologues to Raine about his dastardly plan, and this was to me overly boring. We know it is not going to happen, it can't. And he goes on and on, then she has to reflect on how that is going to make her feel, argh! Also Carnedes was just too much again. I thought he should have been killed executed 2 books back for his crimes yet... here he is the only one to help with the mirror so along for the ride. Right, I thought I was going to hate how that was going to play out and I did. I didn't think he stayed true to his twisted ideals. He was like a ploy to get the plot were she wanted it.So the good. The Sahgred's storyline is wrapped up. We get a little of some of our characters and what the future will hold. The action to the finale wasn't very complex like the other books, I almost feel like it could have been told in a novella. It started on a line and kept going that way, not any real twists and turns. So she has most of the characters in this one but all of Raine's family is missing, other than in wrap up comments. Having Raine's cousins or uncle in on plots and their own scenes in the previous books really added twists. We didn't have that here. This was a wrap up, and Raine's family was a no show. The big wrap ups were Raine, and then Tam. Nice to see both but to get there was a slow go for me. Not as good as the other books for me but worth the wrap up. As soon as I was a quarter in, I wanted to put it down. It was all plot, and it felt like the same search/fight as before, but with less sexual tension between Raine & Tam or Raine & Mychael or anyone for that matter :( But as this is the last in the series I finished it. The only high point for me was a new character: Tams's old teacher Kesyn, who provides the comic relief (literally) with his stinky cheese. Loved him, otherwise, meh.
