About book All-New X-Men, Vol. 2: Here To Stay (2013)

I first want to say Marquez's art was a treat. He did 3 of the 5 issues in this book and while I should be annoyed Immonen didn't continue the full art duties of this book, it was a pleasure to be introduced to this wonderful artist. I have the same problem with this book as I did with the last volume - the premise still does not hold p or make any sense. There is no reason why the original five x-Men should be staying in their future (our present). And even worse we now have evil shape shifting mutants and illusionists making it seem like the X-Men have gone bad. I am so sick and tired of this plot device. This "paranoid - who is who" tired plot device. And you would think after the Skrull Invasion it could have been retired forever...I would love to see a comic Universe where it didn't exist. Again - this book is just spinning its wheels and no further advancement of the plot takes place. And when something does start to take place (Angel wanting to go back in time) it is erased with a mind wipe since the writer Bendis realized he wrote himself into a corner. Also, many characters serve as background but aren't developed e.g. Storm actually changes hair cuts from issue to issue and nobody comments. BTW - I want to go on record as hating her mohawk.Overall - the art is still amazing - the dialogue good - the plot and story - frustrating and annoying. I'm still on my X-men and just general graphic novel kick so...The art was fantastic BUT there were a lot of big scenes and crossovers with The Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, and more. This to me actually hurt the story some- it was a bit overwhelming trying to keep track of all the factions. I'm sure to someone who is familiar with the old stories it was a non-issue, but as someone who came to the stories late in life, I'm having to make good use of Wikipedia. I go back and forth on whether not I'm okay with this- part of me feels like a new set of stories need to stand on their own a bit more, part of me says well it's all part of the same universe and we have the technology to fill in the gaps.A LOT was going on in this installment. Jean's powers are increasing and in conjunction, so is her moxie. She's taken a strong role early on which is confusing all of the other characters, and creating quite an aura of fear, disappointment, and yet some admiration as well. Scott is caught between selves and paths, Beast is trying to maintain pacifism while playing with space and time, Ice Man is being goofy and generally unhelpful, and Angel is just a HOT mess. Oh, and did I mention that Kitty Pryde has gone from sweet kid to headmistress tyrant? I'm still trying to figure out why she is in charge instead of Storm but I know her intellectual prowess has something to do with it.The Hydra team is attacking the Avengers, the Avengers aren't happy with the X-men, S.H.I.E.L.D. is off being themselves- there is a lot to take in. Of course, Scott's new team of the Uncanny X-men are also building their own school, to fight the inevitable hatred uprising of the humans as they call it. All of these factions make sense, they do- it's just A LOT to take in and hard to keep track of all the timelines and characters. I will say, seeing a rogue Mystique is quite entertaining- no longer under the thumb of either man who she devoted herself to for so long.Speaking of Rogue... curious where she is in all of this. So, bottom line. I've done a lot of rambling that probably sounds like complaining. So why the high rating? Because the storylines are still awesome, the artwork is outstanding, and somehow in this mess of a gazillion characters and groups to follow, I still feel like there are few to no flat characters among them. That is quite a feet. I am looking forward to each new installment (as well as re-visiting the old cartoons and such).
