This books was actually more interesting that I thought it would be. Some of the highlights included a witty protagonist, a refreshing change from some of the long-drawn out fantasy books I typically read, and some humorous dialogue. However, I found that the plot was drawn out way more than it needed to be to the point that I had to put the book down for two months. I did like it enough that I'll continue to read this author, though. Really a 3 1/2. I've really enjoyed both Will Hawthorne books. They combine characters and genres that I enjoyed as a child--actors and fantasy/adventure. With a dash of medieval might have been.Will accidentally falls in with some high-minded adventurers while on the run from the Empire, who has banned theater and is looking to arrest immoral actors. He becomes an unwilling and unwitting hero, along the way encountering a magic sword, a disappearing and an almost unbeatable crimson-clad cavalry, and many who are not who they claim to be. Will's a smart alec and the story is clever.
