About book A Turn In The Road (2011)

Bethanne Hamlin's 70 year-old ex-mother-in-law needs to go to Florida (from Seattle) for her 50th class reunion. So...she'll go it alone. But her daughter is adamant that it's not going to happen, and so, Bethanne steps in to enjoy the jaunt with her. Bethanne needs time to think - away from her ex - who hurt her terribly 6 years ago - but now wants her back. Bethanne recovered from the divorce, and is doing very well for herself. Why would she want him back??!! The road trip will provide time to think, and work on the lace gloves for her new daughter-in-law to be. All seems well, until biker Max encroaches upon her thoughts and heart. Now she has two significant men vying for her attention. Both assuring her that they want her to make the decision for her own happiness. How does one decide on a past history with one and a heart tug with the other? Although I have read many books by this author previously, this one touched me on many levels - the central character Bethanne has been divorced for a few years from her ex-husband Grant. When her ex-mother-in-law Ruth decides to take a road trip to Florida for her high school class reunion, Bethanne decides to go, and then her daughter Annie - all three women are very close to each other, and have relationships that they need time to consider - Ruth has been widowed for a long time, but wants to reconnect with her first boyfriend Royce - Bethanne is being courted again by her ex-husband, after his second marriage to a younger woman, Tiffany, failed. Annie is hurt by her boyfriend's decision to go on a trip to Europe with two friends of his from college, one man and one woman, which he didn't disclose until the last moment, or ask her to go on...Yet, although all three women's lives are intertwined, this is still Bethanne's own story of her journey, both literal (the roadtrip) and figurative, as she reflects on her past with ex-husband Grant, and what meeting a new man, Max, means to her. Bethanne has undergone a lot since she discovered that Grant had been having an affair with Tiffany, being divorced by him, putting her own life back together and developing a business that turns out to be very successful. Everyone has conflicting wishes for Bethanne, and she has to learn to listen to her own heart, and trust her instincts, despite pressures from those around her.
