A Thread of Deepest Black starts with werewolf Killian Frost receiving the strangest visit ever. In his threshold stands his natural enemy, handsome shifter Colton Dècarie. To his utter astonishment, Colton has come to him to request a most unlikely favour: He wants Killian to kill him. Intrigued and incited by the beauty of the shifter, Killian demands a condition to consider Colton’s request: He must give Killian a night in his bed. Colton flies at first, but finally agrees to Killian’s condition. But what they do not know is that a night together is going to be the beginning of the most dangerous relationship they can imagine. Sleeping with the enemy brings about unexpected consequences which threaten their lives. In the middle of conspiracies and secrets, they slowly build a relationship based on mutual attraction and need. Somewhere in the mayhem they manage to organize, their mutual attraction turns into love. But when Hell breaks loose, will they be able to protect each other? Or are they doomed for having a forbidden relationship? It is very strange that a character grabs my attention from the start, but it has happened here with Killian Frost. He is a messy one, Killian. He’s clever and cunning, dominant and deeply possessive… and at the same time there is certain softness at the centre. Intrigued at first by Colton, he soon decides that saving the damaged shifter is his duty, and the sets to it with all his soul. I really liked him from the start. As for the story, it is interesting and fast, although there is a lot of sex, some of which seems to unnecessarily slow the pace of the narrative. There is also an abundance of endearments designed to annoy Colton, which are… well, annoying. But all in all I have enjoyed the book. I’ve enjoyed Killian unrepentant randiness and his wicked sense of humour. And I loved the HEA. I can’t help it, I love it when the tough guys fall… The tougher they are, the harder they fall. It never fails to put a smile on my face. This book was alright. If it wasn't so confusing on some parts I would have liked it more and rated it higher. It has so much potential. It felt like I missed a chapter(maybe a whole book) or something. There were a few things that just weren't explained and it left me confused. Then there were a few things I WOULD have liked answered/read about but weren't. Overall, I was able to understand the concept and the title of the book. Killian is a (dark) werewolf. Werewolves feed off of darkness. Colton (light) is a shape shifter. There is a reason he wants to die and asked Killian to do the honor. Werewolves and shape shifters are mortal enemies and have a 'treaty'. But Killian has other plans and they do not involve killing Colton. He wants to help him instead. As their love-hate relationship grows, they work together to fix Colton's problem all along attempting to keep their relationship hidden. Perhaps the 'Bella Luna' had purposively brought them together? At the beginning of this book before Killian meets Colton face to face, it is mentioned his mother is trying to set him up with women. But he won't have any part of it. Needless to say, it is never mentioned again. So, we do not know his families reaction to him turning them down and his new relationship with Colton. Another issue is how did shape shifters come about? It seems to be there are humans(most have no idea about the other two), werewolves(born) and shape shifters. But how are shape shifters 'made'? Apparently, back in the day they(werewolves/shifters) both honored the "Bella Luna" aka Goddess of the Hunt. But they broke apart one for 'light' and other 'dark'. So are shape shifters born, changed or both?? Then there is a mention about age and number of shifts. If I understand it correctly, the more you shift, the younger you look? Is that only for shape shifters or does that go for werewolves as well?? I really hope there is a second book, that can answer all these questions I have floating around in my head. Plus, I would like to see more of Colton and Killian working together to bring the 'light' and 'dark' together. Since they do have common goals, such as protecting those they love and being unknown to humans.
