About book A Lady's Lesson In Scandal (2011)

It was quite interesting - this retelling of Shaw's Pygmalion. A high born child kidnapped by seduced maid ends up in London gutters. There she has to survive and work hard jobs. Until her "mother" dies and with her final breath tells her about her real father. The girl is so distraught that she decides to kill the bastard who left them for dead to learn that he's dead himself and that new Earl is willing to marry her to get to her money. So their path begins... He wants money and she wants money. But after the wedding, when they learn about each other, they find that money is not the most important thing in their marriage. Unfortunatelly, to get what they both want, they have to overcome a lot of obstacles and the most important thing - they have to learn to trust each other. So, the title doesn't really describe the content of the book. But other than that, not much to criticize. It's a very good story with realistic characters, and I particularly liked the description of how both of them don't see themselves as they really are, or as other people see them. And discovering both their worlds (Mayfair and the rookeries) through the other's eyes is fantastic. Both their back stories are relevant and believable, supporting characters are well written, and things aren't black and white. Actually, there's only one character in the whole book that is completely evil, all the others are more complex than that. One of my favorite quotes: "Love didn't have to be pure or blameless or free of anger to be true."

Enjoyed the changing of a guttersnipe into a lady. It was amusing, fun and sweet.
