About book That Scandalous Summer (2013)

I have to say, I'm a Meredith Duran fan. I appreciate her writing which is at times quite lyrical without being fussy, and her plots are not overly predictable or self-evident. In this one, the complexity of her characters is what delighted me most. To have a heroine with an itsy bitsy drinking problem is quite a step off the straight and narrow for romance writers! The hero in this one has his endearing quirks and darknesses as well. On the whole a very good read. Now to acquire the next in the series... This book grew on me. I actively disliked the first half because Liza and Michael were both intolerable whiners for most of it, and vapid children to boot. Luckily the second half had a bit of a magic reset and I quite enjoyed it from there. I'm particularly looking forward to its sequel though, as there is something very appealing about a Duke emerging from a Howard Hughes-esque episode to have his revenge. I also apparently need to catch up on her other books because, though not part of this series, a lot of couples from her previous books make an appearance. It was a bit frustrating at first because I didn't know the backstory that was clearly being alluded to, but checking out the blurbs for those books helped.

This is the one with the doctor who is a duke's brother and a notorious widow.
